Couples Counselling Lane Cove & North Shore

Relationship therapy for couples in Lane Cove and across Sydney's North Shore.

Relationships get stuck for all kinds of reasons - busy lives, old wounds, different ways of handling stress, or a gradual drift into silence. You do not have to be in crisis to want things to feel better than they do.

I'm Leif Lawson, a psychotherapist based in Lane Cove. I work with couples across the North Shore and wider Sydney area, online, helping people understand the patterns that keep them looping and find a clearer, kinder way forward together.

Sessions are held online, so you can attend from home, the office, or wherever you have privacy - no referral needed.

What brings couples here

Every couple is different, but the themes below come up often in my Lane Cove and North Shore practice.

  • The same argument keeps cycling back, unresolved
  • You feel more like flatmates than partners
  • Trust has been shaken by secrecy, betrayal or infidelity
  • One of you wants to talk and the other shuts down
  • You are preparing for a deeper commitment and want to do it consciously
  • You are wondering whether the relationship can survive, or whether it should

How I work with couples

Practical, steady, and tailored to you

Local to Lane Cove and the North Shore

I am based in Lane Cove and know the rhythm of the area - the school runs, the commute, the pressure to keep everything looking fine. Sessions are online, so you can join from home, the car or during a lunch break.

A space for both of you

Couples counselling is not about picking a side. It is about understanding the pattern you are caught in together, and learning to speak and listen in a way that actually lands.

Gottman-informed, not formulaic

I draw on Gottman Method training and relationship repair work, but the work is shaped around your relationship - your history, your hopes, and what you are actually facing right now.

For a fuller picture of how couples counselling works with me, have a look at the main couples counselling page. If anxiety or overthinking is part of what is straining the relationship, my anxiety counselling page may also be useful.

Common questions

Before you get in touch

Do you see couples in person in Lane Cove?
Sessions are currently held online. This works well for couples juggling work, children and different schedules, and means you can attend from anywhere on the North Shore or beyond without the commute.
What if my partner does not want to come?
That is common. One person starting can still shift the dynamic. You are welcome to begin on your own and invite your partner when it feels right.
How long does couples counselling take?
Some couples need a handful of sessions to get unstuck; others prefer ongoing support. We review how it is going as we go, rather than locking you into a fixed number.
Do we need a referral?
No. You can book directly - no GP referral, no mental health care plan, no diagnosis required.

Session lengths, fees and the four-session Growth Package are on the sessions & fees page.
